When it comes to turkey, the wishbone is often an afterthought.

Well, we want to make it top of mind.

Launched in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada’s turkey farmers and processors came together to launch the Wishbone Project.

The Wishbone Project is a way for us to give back. To our communities. To the retailers who get our product to market. And to help those in need at the local, provincial and national levels.

The Wishbone Project isn’t just about monetary contributions to charitable organizations. It runs deeper than that.

We’re also empowering community heroes, like local chefs who are tackling food insecurity.

The more we can boost initiatives like that, whether through funds or food, the less our fellow Canadians have to worry.

If we pull together, we can make that wish come true.

Since the launch of The Wishbone Project, the Turkey Farmers and Processors of Canada are proud to have made the following contributions:

• • A $50,000 donation to Kids Help Phone
  • $25,000 to local chef partners across the country
  • An additional $80,000 to Kids Help Phone and 4-H Canada to ensure youth across Canada, particularly rural youth have access to the supports and services they need
  • $10,000 to support Union Gospel Mission’s food service, which provides meals to over 1,000 British Columbians in need daily
  • $10,000 to support Potluck Catering’s food program, which is creating 1,500 meals per day for Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside residents
  • $10,000 to the Breakfast Club of BC’s emergency fund, contributing to feed over 33,000 children across British Columbia and 500,000 kids in Canada
  • $10,000 worth of turkey, distributed amongst the South East, Niverville and Grunthal Helping Hands food banks of Manitoba
  • 512 turkeys to the New Brunswick Association of Food Banks
  • $3,125 to Siloam Mission in Winnipeg to support its crucial work fighting food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • $1,075 to the EGADZ Youth Centre in Saskatoon to support its food supply programs for children in the area.
  • $1,000 to the Hot Meals for Hungry Kids Program, which has supplied Regina youth with nutritious lunches throughout the pandemic.
  • $1,050 to the Heart of Seniors Hamper Program in Prince Albert that has supplied hampers full of food and hygiene products to seniors in need over the last several months.
  • $3,125 to Les Tablée Des Chefs, which has mobilized the food industry and chefs of Quebec to produce more than 2,000,000 meals and feed people in need during and after the COVID-19 crisis.
  • $3,125 to Feed it Forward to aid its efforts in serving tens of thousands of meals to hungry Ontarians before, during and after COVID-19.
  • $3,125 to The Canteen’s (North Grove) Community Kitchen Program in Nova Scotia
  • $1,500 to Vernon, BC Food Banks
  • $1,500 to Kelowna, BC Food Banks
  • $1,500 to the Kamloops Mustard Seed
  • $22,351 (in turkey) to the Riverton & District Family Centre, Variety Children’s Charity, Winnipeg Christmas for Elders, Plessis Family Centre, YFC Winnipeg, Inner City Youth Alive, North Point Douglas Women’s Centre and Tec Voc Highschool
  • $6,000 to Food Banks Alberta, Leftovers Rescue Food and United Way Calgary
  • $1,000 to Alberta’s Redwater Parent Society
  • $2,000 to Alberta’s The Lending Cupboard
  • $9,000 to New Brunswick Food Banks and soup kitchens
  • 600 turkeys to the Alexandra Centre Society, GTA Food Banks, c/o Routes Transport, Basket Brigade, Sun Youth Organization, Abbotsford Food Bank and The Bloom Group from Sofina
